DIY Christmas Gift Round Up
This year I’m having a DIY Christmas. Not that Christmas is actually my holiday, as I’m Jewish. But that doesn’t mean I can’t give all my friends lovely homemade Christmas gifts. And give all of you guys fun ideas for Christmas gifts for your friends and loved ones.
Here’s a bunch of neat things that you can make for your friends and family this year.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
Candied Nuts Holiday Gift Jar
Christmas Chocolate Bark
DIY Foot Balm
Vanilla Butter Lip Balm
And here are some ideas for gluten free candy you might want to make for this holiday (the candy is also a wonderful gift).
Chocolate Bark
Raw Chocolate Fudge
Peppermint Patties
Candied Pecans
Chocolate Chili Truffles
Chocolate Orange Truffles
Cranberry Apricot Truffles
Macadamia Caramel Clusters
So, there you have it! A bunch of great DIY (homemade) Christmas gift ideas and recipes. You may notice the cute little plaid tin in the photo above which contains my Christmas Chocolate Bark. I purchase loads of tins in various shapes, sizes and colors at thrift stores during the year, and thoroughly clean them out, using them to hold toys, sewing items and other sundries around the house. They also make nice containers for Christmas gifts as you can see above.
I hope everyone has been enjoying all the giveaways recently. I’d like to continue the gift giving this holiday season with a massive giveaway from the lovely Courtney over at Benefit Your Life. Courtney is an incredible person, amazing business woman and has generously donated the following ingredients to help create a great starter kit for making recipes from Elana’s Pantry:

• (2) 8oz bags of Dagoba Chocodrops
• (1) bottle of Grapeseed Oil from Napa Valley Naturals
• (1) bottle of Vanilla Extract from Flavorganics
• (1) bottle of Agave Nectar from Volcanic Nectar
To be entered just leave a comment below. This giveaway is open to everyone, everywhere and I will pick the winner at random. The contest will end on Wednesday, December 15th, 2010 at 6pm.
Update: this giveaway is now over and the winner was Hallie!
The winner of last weeks giveaway for an Elana’s Pantry Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix gift jar and a copy of The Gluten-Free Almond Flour Cookbook is Susan. Congratulations!

Your DIY gift ideas are great, Elana…especially the edible ones! Making gifts is always such fun and so more satisfying than giving something from a store, I think.
Thanks for the great gift ideas..I think that I will give the chocolate chip cookie jars to some family members so that when my daughter comes to visit they can make her some gluten free treats!

Elana,
Thank you so much for your recipes and helpful information. My son owns Gluten Free Country Store here in Az. and when I found your recipe book I was so happy. We have Honeyville Farms near us and brought it into our store. It’s so exciting to help all those people that need to eat the way we know will make them well. Thank you again
Taking the time to make gifts for those we care about is giving love in gift wrap!
Wonderful gift ideas, Elana! Homemade gifts always mean so much- especially when they are healthy and natural!

Hi Elana, we (my husband Tony and I) just got home from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center this past Saturday with our son, Benjamin. He’s been having hard to control seizures for the past seven years. The reason I tell you this is because seven years ago when Ben became disabled (viral encephalitis) I knee I needed yo make some quick changes to my diet in order to keep up with all the demands of a disabled
I love trying your new recipes that fit my diabetic lifestyle. Thanks, you and Courtney are so very generous.
Great ideas! I think I’m going to make the Christmas chocolate bark as a hostess gift.

Going to have to try the bark recipe, so pretty too with the green pistachios and red cranberries. I might try with dried cherries instead though…
Thanks for all your hard work in making these yummy recipes. I love all your recipes and they have not failed me once. I’m even getting my non-gluten free friends begging for these recipes (especially the chocolate chip scones). These DIY gifts are outstanding and I sure will be giving these this year.

NB
My son turns 10 years old soon. So having this ‘gift bag’ would really make his birthday EXTRA Special. Serving healthier treats would make not only me happy but all the mother’s that worry abt all the ‘junk food’ that kids eat these days.
Homemade beauty products and candies are my favourite gifts to give. Lovely round-up :)
I have made many recipes in Elana’s book. I just ordered for the first time a 25 pound bag of almond flour. I make the tarts/pie crusts all the time, for vegetable quiche or the chicken pot pie. They are always a hit with everyone I have served it to.

~F

Jackie
Thanks for all the great ideas…and the giveaway looks awesome!
Thanks for such a great giveaway Elana! Will be making these DIY’s with my daughter for Christmas gifts…
I have been diagnosed with Celiacs for a year now and am still having trouble adjusting. This past year has been extremely busy and I look forward to 2011 in hopes that it will be much kinder to me and I will have time to bake with the almond flour you recommend. I have tried one gluten free flour with a garbonzo bean base and I do not like it so I am hoping to have more luck with the almond flour. I do enjoy making scratch receipes of all types. Thanks so much for your site and the details you provide.
Wow! Elana, your recipes have opened up a whole new world to me and my family since discovering several of us are gluten, dairy and corn intolerant. We were so lost until we found you. Thank you for all that you do.
Thank you for all the wonderful DIY ideas. I think those presents are more personal and mean so much more than just purchasing gift certificates. I really appreciate all you do for us. With your amazing recipes you give the gift of incredible foods that provide us with a healthy, happy body…and obviously that is priceless.
We do DIY Christmas every year. Granola, home made cookies, chocolate bark and many other things..Yummy!~
Gifts from the kitchen are the best! So many yummy-looking recipes which makes it hard to choose which one to make first! Thanks for the inspiration.
Wow, what a generous give away and your goodies look so yum.
All of it looks amazing! What a great way to share with loved ones this Christmas!!!
Wow Elana…this is all so so amazing! Thank you SO much for sharing with us! It feels much better giving family and friends gifts that will keep them healthy and that don´t break the bank! Thanks again! You are an inspiration! :)

Your food recipes are amazing – even my kids who can eat gluten love them! Can’t wait to try the lip balm next.
Thanks for the ideas! I’m doing almost all DIY Christmas gifts.
It’s mostly because shopping this time of year makes me angry – it’s frustrating from a practical point of view because the shopping areas and malls are so busy, but it also just reminds me of all the consumerism and greed and makes me sad. I’m much more comfortable spending that time at the co-op and grocery store buying ingredients, then cooking in the peace and quiet of my own home, then making one trip to the craft store to buy ribbons and glitter and whatnot for packaging. =]
What a great giveaway! Thanks very much for your generosity!
I love all the ingredients that are listed to win so any of them would be awesome –thanks Elana for making cooking fun and healthy again
i am making lip balm too for holiday giveaways~
thanks for the roundup.
I love your site and your recipes! Totally will make some of the recipes for Christmas gifts.

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate knowing that there are ways to stay healthy and still enjoy great food and your commitment to making that information available. You have been such an inspiration to those of us who have felt somehow no longer normal for not
being able to eat certain foods, and have made it so much easier for me to talk about healthy and fun options to friends and clients!
Great ideas, great gift pack.
Wow! What awesome ideas for homemade holiday gifts. I think I am going to try my hand and some candy-making this year. Your recipes are delicious!
Love all the gift suggestions. What a wonderful give-a-way. Would love to win.
I love the ideas! I have a friend who I’ll be making the GF chocolate chip cookie mix for- her kids are gluten intolerant. The lip balm? Definitely going to try this one! Sounds divine!
I would love to win this! A little birdy told me that I am getting your cookbook for Christmukkah. :)
I have only been gluten free for 6 months but I just found out that my teenage son has celiac. This website has been a godsend. the gluten free carrot cake recipe is delicious.
Thanks
Your website is lovely. I was able to get your cookbook from the library and just received my first bag of Honeyville almond flour in the mail. Looking forward to all the treats I can make using it with your recipes.
Thank you for the gift ideas! I have been making quite a few DIY gifts this year. I lost my job a couple of months ago, when the company I worked for closed, so funds are a little tight.
How sweet of you to think of gifts for Christian high holy days! Very thoughtful (I’m not surprised).
Awesome giveaway! I love your recipes. Even though I don’t eat gluten-free, your almond flour-based cookie recipes are my favorites…and everyone I make them for raves about them too! ;o)
Hi Elana,
I am so burned out on the over sugared holiday season around here I can’t wait to go make a batch of almond meal cookies instead and have some healthy holiday cheer. Your site is an inspiration.
Emma
I got started on my DIY gifts last Sat. while we were snowed in (18+ inches of snow!) Got the spiced nuts done and some chocolate covered almonds w/ sea salt. Will need to make more because they were very yummy and will want to eat more and more! Thanks
I keep meaning to make some of your candied nuts! But those peppermint patties sound good too now.
Thanks for the giveaway! I still haven’t bought any of your favored almond flour yet…
Elena- I’m just learning about eating sugar-free…and a friend said your blog is where she finds her hit recipes! Thanks for the wealth of information! Happy Hanukkah!
I’ve never given food as a Christmas gift before but I definitely will this year! Who doesn’t love a yummy holiday treat? Thanks, Elana!
As the mother of 4 children with food allergies to grain I find myself visiting your blog daily (sometimes in the wee morning hours..ugh!) Thanks so much for all you do! You make 2am up with sick kids stints so much more productive:-)
Can’t wait to make the foot balm.
Thank you Elana
I’m sooooo excited to see the candy recipes for the holidays! I look forward to trying them!
Wow! What a nice assortment of gifts so generously given by Courtney at Benefit Your Life! Because of that, I just visited the Benefit Your Life website, and I was amazed to see the fabulous collection of gluten free products — and only $7.95 flat rate shipping, no matter the size of the order. From the About Us page, “Products in this store are Fair Trade, Natural, Organic, Recycled, Allergen-Free, Manufactured in small batches or produced from a small family-owned business.”
I love all of your healthy treasures! YUM
That’s such a good idea for a giveaway. Usually for Christmas I give my grandma some kind of candy. I think this year I’m going to try to make her some homemade candies (and hopefully she won’t tell me, in her sweet grandma voice, that it kind of tastes like some-four-letter-word). I think I’ll try your chocolate covered cherry recipe–but I’m gonna have to work some booze in there somehow. She just turned 90 but she likes her holiday nip.
what an awesome giveaway! love all your wonderful posts!
I am SO thankful for all of your wonderful gift ideas and candy recipes. It is such a blessing to have these good ideas in one place!
I’m totally making some of your homemade gifts this year! Thanks!
Oh what fun it would be to win this package from you. I just love Christmas and everything about it. Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!! Kathy
Just bought your cookbook for myself for Christmas. It is wonderful! thanks so much for putting these great recipes together for us GFs!
My favorite thing to do lately is come home and experiment with recipes from your blog or cookbook. Fun, and yumm.
As truly appreciative as I am with regard to all gifts I am fortunate enough to receive there lies an extra special energy within gifts that are made by hand. I love to make something each year to give along with a purchased gift, and what marvelous ideas there are to be had here.
Love the lip balm idea!! I can’t wait to make it!
Thanks for all the suggestions. I love DIY gifts – and yours are wonderful!! Can’t get enough of the chocolate chip cookies!!
great recipes!
I may just have to make those chocolate chili truffles!
oh my, yes PLEASE!
Great ideas, Elana! Thank you!
Kathleen
your recipes are so practical and easy!
I’d love this kit! Wow!
I’ve been incorporating your ingredients and recipes into my slightly more “traditional” ingredients lists, and loving it! Added almond flour into a batch of chocolate chip cookie bars to rave reviews this weekend. I think that gave me the push to make your agave-sweetened almond flour cookies without brown sugar, and see how it goes :)
Thank you, Elana, we are so happy to have YOU in our lives! My daughter and I have been eating gluten free (or as I like to say, we only eat FOOD) for many years now and have pioneered quite a few tasty recipes of our own. But, your recipes are fabulous and we have gotten so many great ideas from you (nice having you perfect them for us too then all we have to do is follow the directions, saves a lot of time)! Your pictures are fabulous, commentaries charming, and we feel like we have a new friend in you. Like a soul mate of sorts! So very happy for you that your endeavors are successful and prosperous and that you are changing the way America eats! Well done! Keep it up!
Awww, welcome, new friend :-)
Courtney at Benefit Your Life sounds like a heck of a girl! That’s an awesome gift box she donated. I’m sure I could find a buhzillion ways to put it to good use. Thanks for the chance, and thanks for the great gift ideas. – NanaBread (Jeanne)

I thoroughly enjoy your recipes. Thank you for the help as I navigate gluten free coking for 2 family memebers.
Thanks for all of the great ideas for gifts! What a great giveaway! Happy holidays.
I love your DIY list. Christmas preparation has been interrupted for me and my family, who just lost our 96 year old dad. some homemade and safe goodies would be so wonderful just now! And homemade foot balm! I have to try that! Hope Hanukkah was happy. It is thoughtful and generous of you to “do” Christmas gifts for your other friends. Thanks Elana!
This weekend I baked up a ton of cookies for gifts, I don’t have experience making lotion or lip balm – I really want to try the lip balm!!!
I am so thankful to have eating options. So much of eating healthy is an emotional process, and this means I am not starved physically OR emotionally. Hopefully I will make some chocolate bark this year!
How thoughtful of you and Courtney to give away all these wonderful gifts and amazing recipes. Thank you for all your care and support Elana, you truly are an inspiration to all of us.

Thank you Elana for sharing all these wonderful recipes. Before I found your site last year, I didn’t think I would ever enjoy food again. Your site is a treasure I share with everyone!
Thank You for all of your time and efforts that you share with us all!!!
Oh! The last time I made my own lip balm and lotions was high school… I have been wanting to try this again!
Elana and Courtney, thank you for offering a wonderful giveaway.
The Christmas gift ideas and recipes have been wonderful and your website is an incredibly helpful resource. I recently bought your cookbook and I’m looking forward to trying the recipes. My five year old daughter has a gluten intolerance (and likely a dairy allergy, as well), so I’m also very much looking forward to your cupcake cookbook. Thank you for the chance to win the starter kit.
I am so trying some of these recipes! Thanks so much for sharing them with us :)
I would love to get that starter kit. Also, does anyone have any ideas about a healthy version of a low fiber diet? I will be caring for someone soon who is suffering from intestinal blockages after several serious bouts of cancer-related surgery. She is trying to gain some weight and get her strength up without irritating her intestinal blockage problem but feels uninspired by the refined ingredients list her doctors suggested.
Gosh Elana you sure have some great ideas and recipes.
Thanks!
Thanks Elana – I have shared your website with so many of my GF and Non-GF friends – thanks for all you do!
Enter me, please!
thanks for the amazing gf cooking insights…. i just bought your book a few months ago and ordered almond flour and i’m good to go…. done with messing around with 12 types of flour…. thank-you so much for a simple, nutrious and delicious way to bake!
I’m filing these ideas away for next year. thanks!
I just purchased a 6 lbs. bag of almond flour from Benefit Your Life (I found them through your book), but that won’t last long! So I’d love a bag of ingredients to continue the baking through the winter.
Thanks for all the things you share on your blog. I have your cookbook checked out from the library and am hoping my hubby buys me a copy for Christmas! Just ordered a 25 lb. bag of almond flour, too! :-)

I stumbled onto your book on Amazon. I’m trying to gather the ingredients for cooking with almond flour. Some family members need to eat gluten free so I am trying to learn about new cooking possibilities.
Thanks for the DIY gift ideas. I recently made a fantastic batch of Balsamic Roasted Almonds with Dried Mango, Cranberries, Coconut, and Crystallized Ginger for a great foodie friend. It was a success!
Ohh, I hope I win these AWESOME gifts. Everything I need :)
These ideas are great. I think home made gifts are great and people appreciate the extra blood/sweat/love that goes into it.
I made your chocolate bark for a holiday party. Lots of good complements!
That gluten free choc chip cookie mix would be great for my granddaughter and that little plaid tin is the cutest.
love the list! diy christmas is right up our alley. the money we save is then donated to our favorite charity, medical teams international!
I’m cooking out of your cookbook several times a week. I am teaching my 17 year old son to cook gluten free–your book is his Bible. It’s working-by the time college rolls around he will know how to happily and deliciously feed himself. Thanks!
My girls and I are making all of the above for gifts this season…love everyone of them…Thank you!
I love the idea of making gifts – it’s so much more personal and from the heart! This is an amazing giveaway – I could try so many of your recipes!
I added your Almond Flour cookbook to my Christmas wish list; I’m crossing my fingers Santa is good n’ gluten free to me this year! I’m doing a lot more baking now b/c of my recently-discovered other food sensitivities, so winning the contest would be a bonus, too.
Wow! such great ideas – I love the lipbalm and cookie kits are a brilliant gift. I would love to be entered for the giveaway! Thanks Elana!

Hi Elana!
I’ve been following your website for only a couple of weeks but I’m sure that I am going to continue also in the new year – and not just reading but really trying my hands with your recipes. I’ve started to eat gluten-(and lactose-) free in the summer and I feel wonderful. Thanks for all the DIY gifts ideas, I am going to do some of them for my family :)
Yeah, and I am following you from Hungary which is a long way away but still so close in terms of thinking of food :)
I wish I had time to do more gifts from your list. I am having surgery next week and will be off my feet for a couple weeks.
I think I am going to make the Christmas bark this year.
Love your gift ideas Elana! So simple and enjoyable!

I don’t know if it’s good or bad that getting your book has meant chocolate chip scones for breakfast many mornings.
i’m definitely going to try that bark – it’s so easy! and can’t wait to get your book. i’m so glad i’ve found this blog.
I was so excited to find recipes I could use as gifts such as the foot balm and the lip balm. Your comment that what was good for the skin should also be good to eat. I had never thought of products in that manner and it has given me a lot to think about. So, I am impressed and would like to learn more.

would love a starter kit!
I always give my grandpa’s bbq seasoning mix as a gift this time of year. He had a pit and pit roasted everyone’s turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I like giving this because it reminds me of grandpa and it’s a non-sweet gift.
Elana – would love to be entered in the giveaway, but mainly was stopping by to leave you a comment to say thank you for your blog. I have been reading it for over a year now, and recently was able to start exploring more of your almond-flour-based recipes, and I am loving everything. I also bought your book and am so grateful for the resource you have become through the book and blog :)
I have tried lots of your recipes and each one is better than the next. For 2011 I am making the resolution to start eating more gluten free. I need to improve my health and take better care of myself. You have showed me that you can make food that tastes good and is good for your body.
These all look great! Thanks for the inspiration.
My 14 year old son plans to make several of these gifts for grandpa who has celiacs disease. Also bought grandpa your cookbook. We plan on making several treats for the whole family when they visit for the holidays! Thanks for the great ideas.
Hi, I just started reading your website and was thrilled to see such amazing healthy recipes. Happy holidays!
You can get the majority of the ingredients I use online. Check out my Ingredients page for more info.
Thanks Elana for your awesome recipes! I’ve been able to convert my normal-eating boyfriend into an almond flour baked goods junkie!

Although I have yet to make too many of these recipes, they have inspired many others that have brought me much success. As a teen living in a gluten-filled town, I love to momentarily escape the madness by reading about the delicious possibilities. Thank you for sharing your time and good food :)
Thanks for sharing all these. I made the cookie mix and tomorrow I am proceeding with the nut gift jar and probably the pistachio rich chocolate bark.I’m kinda postponing the foot balm for it is for myself but I hope I will have enough time to come up with it until next week. Elana, what a great giveaway! Thanks for sharing all the great gift giving ideas. I made granola yesterday and put in jars to give away to a few friends. I’ll add your ideas as well.

I just started eating paleo a week and a half ago, and your site is definitely an inspiration as I make the transition. Thanks so much for your recipes and beautiful photos!
DIY christmas is a great idea. I don’t have to worry about that this year though, I’m with the in-laws and they treat Christmas as something of a “secret santa.” The kids get gifts from everyone, but the adults get a gift from one person and buy a gift for one person. It means getting one nicer thing as opposed to lots of little things.
But for my family, DIY Christmas would be the perfect gift. :)
Love the Christmas gift ideas! And wow, what a giveaway!
Thanks Elana. You are such an encouragement. Every time I stop by, I am renewed in my vow to continue healthy habits.
Thank you for the giveaway. The gf candy recipes will come in handy over the winter holidays.
As usual, Elana, I love everything here! I can’t wait to order some jars and make a few of these gifts.
Thank you for all the wonderful recipes, Elana!
I love your recipes! I was told by my doc that I could never lower my cholesterol enough naturally to satisfy her. That is until I cut out refined sugar and flour entirely. I started to bake almost exclusively with almond flour and lo and behold, at my next check up my bad cholesterol had gone down significantly and my good cholesterol went through the roof! Her comment wass “Whatever you are doing, keep it up!”
It’s easy with your website! Thank you!
oh my what a great giveaway! thank you
These look fantastic and are just the thing I need for our families this season! Thank you for the suggestions!
Cheers!
Yay! I’m excited for this!
Moira
Thanks for your site, Elana! We usually eat some type of pancake or muffin for breakfast, and I love feeding my kids some extra protein instead of empty carbs!
Thank you for all your great recipes. I have a Downs Syndome daughter who is 19 years old and was diagnosed with Diabetes last August and now Celiac. Your receipes have helped me make her yummy food and desserts and I truly do appreciate it. I also have enjoyed your recipe book. Happy Holidays!

Elans, thank you for your wonderful recipes. They are inspirational and easy to make for those of us who lack creativity, but still need to eat gluten-free. And the recipes are delicious, too. I look forward to testing the recipes throughout this holiday season.

How did All-Glad know I needed new pots? I am looking forward to making more soups this winter, including butternut squash soup and I am looking for a good mushroom soup recipe. I also would love to try Elana’s chai recipe once I find a decent decaffeinated/uncaffeinated black-like tea!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hi, to everyone & Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! I have had a weight problem all my life. I diet & exercise. Now, I wonder, if I have a gluten problem. Does anyone know how I can find out?
For Jerrilynn. Go to your Dr. & ask for a TTA test for gluten tolerance. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays
