Hi, First, I love this site! It's great. I have celiac disease, I was diagnosed in 2003 - had the runs for over a year before and still have them. In feb this year I went to a DO - he ran food allergy tests - I was shocked at the results, all my favorite foods for the most part! Here is my list: avocado, green beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, yellow wax beans, beet, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cantaloupe, cauliflower, EGG, eggplant, garlic, lettuce, onion (I have added this and done well), oat, green pepper, pineapple, white potato, radish, rape seed/canola, spinach, tomato, brewers yeast (indicates candida). Before all this - I ate lots of mexican or italian foods - I love spicy. I know it's not the end of the world, but somedays I feel like I just want to eat whatever I want that is GF! I do have a good side to all this, I lost weight that I struggled for years to lose! If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. I do eat a lot of rice. For the past month I have been trying the Low Oxalate Diet that my DO suggested. It's helping a little, but very limited too. Thanks just for "listening". Theresa

My fiance' Alex has a number of allergies. He has celiacs disease, but also is allergic to nuts, eggs, dairy, casein, green beans, on top of all of the grains. I've cooked for him occasionally, but not on a regular basis since we don't live together. Here is my question... After we get married and move into our new home, how can I balance his allergies with my own diet? Should I give up these things as well? Is it unhealthy for someone without allergies to go without all of those things? I think my plan is to switch to a gluten free diet, but to keep eating eggs and small amounts of dairy, since it will be easier to keep dairy from getting cross-contaminated into his food. Any help or advice would be appreciated! (Also, Alex has said that I don't need to cut out anything from my diet that I don't want to, but I really would prefer for our whole kitchen to be accessible to him... and to only cook one meal instead of two).

Hi Elana and others,

I've been trying to follow the SCD diet for our celiac. Very similar to what you're already doing, Elana. But one thing that is "illegal" is chocolate. I don't remember the exact reason. I know you don't use sugar, but I noticed the Dagoba chocolate chips have sugar.

I'm having an extremely hard time trying to stick to this diet and am not sure if I really have to. One of the things we have missed is chocolate. Last night, at a restaurant, we were celebrating my parents anniversary and this place had a flourless brownie recipe. It's gluten free but not sugar free. We ate it anyways, and we're okay today.

How did you determine what you could have or couldn't have? How did you figure out which gluten free ingredients were okay and not? I have read your testimonial but just wanted to hear more of your thought process to help me on my journey.

I have 4 children and one child and I have celiac. But I'm keeping the house on the SCD diet. I found that I didn't care for or feel good on all the boxed GF foods, especially the baked goods. So, I found SCD and have been trying that. But usually there's at least one food or condiment where we mess up, but nobody seems to really suffer.

With the Dagoba chips, is there a reason the 365 brand at Whole Foods wouldn't work as well? I'm trying to save money too.

MANY thanks,
Betty
