I was reading that almonds are BAD for those on the LOD (Low Oxalate Diet), which is another common diet used for autism treatment (and I guess also high in Salicylates!)

I wanted to get that out there for people who, like me, were using GFCF or SCD for spectrum disorders, and didn't know about the oxalate and salicylate factor.

I think I am going to make sure we only get one serving of almond stuff a day. It sounds "easy" to do that, but not so much if we have pancake or muffin for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and cookies for dessert after dinner. LOL !!!

It shouldn't be to hard to only get one serving of almonds per day. Just use another nut flour for the cookies and pancakes. Save the almond serving for plain flavored bread as it is the most neutral flavor for sandwiches. Occasionally skip the sandwich and use the almond flour for a special treat.

I've made cookies, cakes, pancakes with both pecan flour and hazenut flour and they turn out well. Just exeriment until you find the nut flours your family likes the best.

    Good luck!

Where do you buy pecan flour and hazelnut flour?

To cut back on almond flour, try increasing your meat, eggs, fruit, vegetable, and berry consumption. Have fruit or berries or fruit smoothie or Elana's homemade ice cream for dessert instead of cookies, for example.

Have fish and fruit for breakfast.

I pack my husband's and daughter's lunch everyday. She takes a thermos or two with meat and veggies and has fruit on the side. She eats a lot of salads since we have changed our diet.

    Hi Lisa,

I've bought from nuttyguys and nuts4u both. Online, both dot com. They are both excellent. The pecan meal/flour from them was just as smooth as the almond flour from Honeyville, which I've also bought.

The hazelnut meal I usually get is from Bobs Red Mill. I like it for cookies and cakes, because it has some texture. I love hazelnut cookies with chocolate chips or dipped in melted chips. I haven't tried the hazelnut meal from nuts4u.

I did try walnut meal/flour early on but wasn't happy with it. I don't remember which place I got it but it seemed to have more tiny shell pieces in it than I wanted. So never bought it again. If anyone tries a new source for these things I would suggest you buy a small quantity for the first order until you see if you like it.
