Hi, any other aussies on here? I'd like to try these recipes and buy the book but am a bit put off by the lack of success with almond flours other than the ones reccommended. Has anyone in Australia had success with a particular brand? Or even found the reccommended ones here?

    Hi Crisford,
I am based in NZ and I usually order my almond flour online from the Nut Store (www.nutstore.co.nz). I'm not sure if they ship to Australia but it's worth finding out. Their almond flour comes in larger sizes and is more economical than many other brands that we have access to here. I use this almond flour with Elana's recipes all the time and have never had anything but fab results.
    Hope this helps!

Sandra Ramacher is in Australia and has a great cookbook. Healing Foods is (I think) the name of it. She has Crohn's disease - different from Celiac - she can't digest grains or sugars (except honey and fruit) at all. She has sources for almond flour there.

    Hi
I'm sorry Crisford I cant help because I'm looking for the same thing but here in NZ...

Honeygirl I assume the Nutstore deliver nation wide?? Also I had a quick look on the site and could you tell me do you order the almonds in the ground blanched option?? The photo of the product didin't look much like a fine powder but more like finely chopped nuts so just wanted to be sure of ordering the right stuff.

I have yet to make any of the recipes but am super excited because I have been battling with my food allergies for so long and putting up with everything all because the alternatives lacked inspiration or were full of wierd additives and tasted like cardboard.
Can't wait to get started and make my own yummy and healthy guilt free food.

    Hi Rhiannon,
Yup, The Nutstore will deliver nation-wide. I usually order the large bags of Ground Blanched Almond Flour (and I usually order a few bags at a time as the shipping works out better that way). I have used this almond flour in all Elana's recipes that I've tried and have never had any problems (when measuring the almond flour I do pack it down a little bit).
Depending on where you live there are some other options as well:
Huckleberry Farms in Auckland stocks almond flour although it tends to be more expensive.
You could also try IE Produce in Takapuna (they deliver in the Auckland region, but I'm not sure about outside Auckland), and the One Stop Gluten Free Shop (they are based in Tauranga but have home delivery).
    Hope this helps. Happy baking!

    Hey Honey girl,
Thanks so much for this reply most helpful. Yes I live in central Auckland and know Huckleberry's well though not too happy with the prices there, but your other suggestions I'll have a good look at. I hadn't thought of IE Produce so thanks for the reminder.
    Many thanks.

Just checked your reply Jayne, thank you so much for such a comprehensive list! Have you found that the NSM product is fine enough? Everything here is called 'meal' - I know that when I buy corn meal or millet meal it is coarser than the corresponding flours.

Thanks for the list of vendors Jaylu.

If you are having trouble finding almond meal(flour) locally it is also worth checking out the fruit markets and middle eastern 'corner' shops. I have found it ~$8/500g though, no bulk buys, but good for topping up between bulk buy orders. Indian and Asian (and African) grocers are good for other GF flours.
