This link will give you enough reasons to stop using the microwave for everything. Please read it today and share your thoughts. How many people do you know who microwave everything from the baby bottle to the family dinner?

I have been aware of some of these issues for years but have rationalized using it to warm up leftovers. This stops today for our family. We are getting even more back to basics.

Since being gluten free for almost 7 weeks now, I expected my daughter's anxiety and fears to settle down/disappear. For us, this is not the case. I think that the microwave has a lot to do with it, and it is my responsibility to stop its' use in our home.

I am surprised you would post this pseudo-science. Microwaving food makes it taste synthetic, but there is no evidence that microwave radiation (which is also emanating from your cell phone) are causing your daughter's illnesses. Microwaves should be used cautiously the same as you would use a gas burner, as it is generating high frequency magnetic waves which heat up water molecules. Microwaves, radio waves and other invisible phenomena are all around us all day. Anybody can make up a claim against anything and claim its bad for you, is causing this or that, and it takes years before cause and effect is established. But microwaves have not been established to cause any damage to anything other than to heat up water.

As any first level psychologist will tell you, anxiety and fear is from anticipation of the unknown, caused by past trauma, so if that's your issue, then it's time to start looking at "contaminated" phenomena (as they say in Buddhism) [negative thoughts] as a cause rather than actual phenomena.

I didn't read the link, but I wonder how much radiation your oven/stove puts out when cooking for 1 hour vs. microwave for 2 mins, ya know? Anyway, maybe the link says LOL

actually, there is a lot of evidence that microwave radiation is causing a great deal of damage, you just have to do some in depth research. I haven't looked at the link, but you shouldn't assume that it's pseudo-science just because it goes against common understanding (even if that common understanding has scientific basis itself)
The use of microwaves is fairly recent (considering the scope of human history), and it really isn't known just what effect it has on the human body, or genetic structure. We can't assume that it's perfectly safe, and considering much of the evidence I've been given in my own family by naturopaths, dental surgeons, and other health care professionals, as well as what I have read and observed myself, I am fully convinced that microwave radiation is a health risk for everyone.

^ And it's different using gas stove/electric cook top, it's not microwave radiation. It's still not fantastic but it's an awful lot better for you. (My aunt experimented turning all the power off at night at the fuse box (she managed to isolate the fridge, so that it stayed on) and without any other change, major improvements in the quality of sleep, aches and ailments disappeared.. it was incredible.)

"I am fully convinced that microwave radiation is a health risk for everyone." Yet, you haven't provided any evidence, links or otherwise . You are just fully convinced! LOL. Other than the food tastes nasty, I'm not sure what speeding up water molecules has on long term health.

Meanwhile, you use a cellphone (microwaves), then you go outside where microwaves from DirectTV, not to mention FM/AM radios, and all the other cell phone towers vibrate all around you (yes, they are super-fast vibrations). Why aren't you afraid of that? It seems like there are lot of other environmental variables than a microwave oven.

I don't use a cellphone if I can avoid it, and there is nothing I can do about the outside microwaves outside apart from move to a remote area, not exactly in my budget to do. I realise the danger, particularly when we moved clinics and can observe the health patterns in areas of concentrated microwave radiation, but I also realise there's little that can be done about it. At least by little ole me..
I'd give links but I'm old school in my research, I hate using the internet (or it hates me.. I'm still trying to work that out haha) most of my stuff comes from books, journal articles and a little from family medical/herbal gossip. Slow death by rubber duck is a more recent commercial book that addresses some of this stuff, microwaves are a very small part, but it's very interesting. I recommend you read it, but then I'd say that about a million books this week.. procrastination. Read whatever I can but what is necessary for university haha
On another note - have either of you read the brain that changes itself? Completely off topic, but I read it recently and it's really interesting.

    * I said "little can be done about it" but iodine in the iodine deficient, some homeopathy and energy therapies can be very beneficial in combatting the effects of radiation of all sorts, including microwave. I still don't recommend eating as a rule foods that have been zapped in the microwave.. and I agree they taste icky - isn't that a good enough reason?

There is a necklace on the market that one can wear around their neck which helps the body combat the exposure to Electro Magentic Forces. My natural practitioner sells them and we are putting money into the budget to buy one for each member of our family.

We have been off the microwaved food for 9 days now. The warmed up leftovers taste so much better out of the toaster oven. Yum.

According to Dr. Cristina Garcia-Viguera, co-author of the study, microwaved broccoli loses 97 percent, 74 percent, and 87 percent of the three major cancer-protecting antioxidant compounds (flavonoids, sinapics and caffeoyl-quinic derivatives). By comparison, steamed broccoli loses 11 percent, 0 percent and 8 percent of the very same antioxidants. In a 1992 article in the journal Pediatrics, a team of researchers from Stanford University reported that re-heating human breast milk in a microwave oven – even at a low setting – can destroy some of its important disease-fighting capabilities. Specifically, it lost lysozyme, which protects against bacterial infection. The fact that adverse changes were found at very low temperatures suggested to the researchers that “microwaving itself may in fact cause some injury to the milk above and beyond the heating”.

Vitamin B-12 is another nutrient that can be destroyed by microwaving. Japanese research reported in Science News in 1998 found that as little as six minutes of microwave cooking destroyed half of the vitamin B-12 in dairy foods and meat, a much higher rate of destruction than other cooking techniques. Microwaving baby formula is also a problem, according to Dr. Lita Lee of Hawaii in the Lancet medical journal in 1989. She wrote that microwaving baby formula converts certain trans-amino acids into synthetic substances like trans-fatty acids. Further, one of the amino acids, L-proline, converts to a substance known to be poisonous to the nervous system and to the kidneys.

Thanks for these facts. If I am going to spend the money for the high quality ingredients and spend the time preparing the food, I just hate to see it wasted by microwaving it!!
