Honey
Honey is one of nature’s miracles. Made by bees with nectar harvested from flowers, this natural sweetener has multiple nutritional benefits and medicinal properties. It can be used raw, or in baking.
Honey is technically a sugar in that it is primarily made of glucose and fructose and is higher on the glycemic index than agave.
Technically, honey is a nutritive substance but doesn’t contain more than trace amounts of minerals and vitamins. Honey has anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties. Honey’s health benefits include probiotic bacteria, phytonutrients; it can even heal topical burns and other wounds. Studies have also concluded that raw honey can be as effective as over the counter medications for throat ailments, coughs, and colds. There is also evidence that it is an immune booster and an effective antioxidant.
I use honey in these recipes.
