Palm Sugar

Coconut sugar and date sugar are often referred to as palm sugar however they are two different products from two different types of trees. Date palm sugar is made from the sap of the Palmyra palm, or the date palm tree. Coconut palm sugar is made from the sap of the sago arenga pinnata, or the coconut palm tree. Take note, coconut palm sugar is not made from the coconut fruit, as mentioned above, it is made from the sap of the coconut palm tree.
Taste-wise, coconut sugar and palm sugar are very similar. They both resemble brown sugar in flavor, color and granule. They have a caramel-type flavor; are light to medium brown in color and are granulated. Though one of the products I buy, Coconut Secret Coconut Crystals, has granules that get very clumpy.
Here is a complete list of the palm sugars that I use:
- Big Tree Farms SweetTree Organic Coconut Palm Sugar, Blonde
