This Paleo Carrot Soup recipe with spicy ginger and rich coconut milk will warm you to the bone on a snowy day.
During the last year my husband and I were lucky enough to eat at the Post Ranch Inn in Northern California. We had an incredible meal which included a stunning salad as well as carrot ginger soup, and more. I spoke to our server to get an idea of what was in that amazing carrot soup so that I ... read more →

After going without food and water for over 24 hours, we like to keep our break fast light and healthy.
Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, is one of the holiest days of the year for Jews. Fasting begins 20 minutes before sundown and ends after nightfall the following day. Jewish fast days not only include abstaining from food, but water as well.
Because the fast is not always easy and can be challenging on the body, we make ... read more →

Creamy dairy free soup made with superfood cauliflower to warm you up on a cold night.
Soup is good food. Especially healthy soup made with a mere five ingredients.
This quick and easy Roasted Cauliflower soup recipe is one that I found in a recent issue of Bon Appetit. Except their recipe had butter and heavy cream; I’ve de-Paula Deened this recipe so that it is the pure delicious essence of a vegetable without all kinds of unnecessary other ingredients ... read more →

This Paleo Plan is for my friend Leslie Dietrich. Our children play baseball together and Leslie and I had the pleasure of thrift shopping our way through Waco, Texas last summer when their team was in the Regional Little League World Series Playoffs.
Like me, Leslie has a host of auto-immune disorders. Unlike me, she still eats gluten and grains. Leslie asked me for an eating plan that she could try for one week to see if the symptoms in ... read more →

Tonight is the Oscars and we’re having a nice little party over here (as usual). I’ll be serving this super quick and easy gluten free Mushroom Soup in little shot glasses. As you can probably tell by now, pretty much any event is an excuse for me to have people over and cook healthy gluten free food.
I frankly could not really care who wins what awards tonight. I just like to hang with my posse and have good eats. In ... read more →

I can tell this Green Chicken Soup is going to become one of my go to dishes in no time at all.
I love this soup because it is an easy way to take in powerfully nutritious greens. While I love my green juices in theory, in reality, my stomach doesn’t always agree with them, especially when it’s cold outside. That’s when it’s time to make Green Chicken Soup. Somehow, the carrots and kale give the soup a delicious sweet flavor, which makes this ... read more →

This recipe was inspired by Jaden’s Lemongrass Chicken and Coconut Soup from her fabulous book, The Steamy Kitchen Cookbook. I received it in the mail on Friday and played with it all weekend long. It is a captivating book, full of gorgeous pictures (which she styled and shot herself) and easy recipes. I’m in love. Last night, I made this Coconut Chicken Soup, Jaden’s Grilled Fish with Kabayaki Sauce (also from The Steamy Kitchen Cookbook) and some stir fried broccoli.

When the cold weather comes I’m in the mood for soup. This gluten free Green Soup with Ginger that I found on Heidi’s website 101cookbooks.com is quite comforting on a chilly day. And I must confess, I often eat it for breakfast to start my day out right.
I’ve probably mangled the work of art that Heidi had on her site, however, I was in the mood for something very soothing so I decided to puree this soup. I also used ... read more →

Because fresh food in general tastes better and is often cheaper than processed food, I have put together a short demo on how to roast your own pumpkin:

I have to give full credit for this photo of Thai Chicken Soup to my boys. They helped me stage the shot and then sat with me at the computer to crop and size the photo. They are becoming such little artists, having far surpassed me in this arena.
The delicious Thai soup above is based on a recipe from Cook’s Illustrated. My friend Deb got me hooked on this magazine last year when she gave me a ... read more →

Simple and creamy vegan butternut squash soup to warm your belly.
This vegan recipe for butternut squash soup is great for a cold winter’s day. We’ve had a lot of those lately. I haven’t worn anything outside but snow boots in 2007.
We just had our 7th snow storm in seven weeks. I don’t mind, I was raised in California where we pretended that a heavy frost was “snow.” Here’s some good grub for staying warm.
Butternut Squash Soup
