Gluten free, grain free, egg free, nut free, refined sugar free (everything) free brownies.
I really enjoy using almond flour –almonds are a superfood and highly nutritious. However, every now and then, someone requests a nut free dessert recipe for some type of gluten free baked good. At other times, folks are looking for an egg free recipe.
There are as many allergies out there as there are colors in the rainbow. This brownie recipe is for all the nut free, egg ... read more →

Strawberries are higher in antioxidants than just about every other fruit.
Strawberry Sorbet is the perfectly refreshing dessert for any summer meal. This sorbet recipe is loaded with wholesome strawberries, which have numerous health benefits. Strawberries are thought to be a cancer fighting food as well as high in vitamin C, anti-inflammatory and good for the cardiovascular system. Research has also shown that strawberries can help to regulate blood sugar and decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes.

I’m a big fan of gluten free cookies, especially gluten free biscotti.
These Paleo friendly gluten free treats are a great addition to a high protein breakfast and also perfectly suited for dunking in healthy coffee for an afternoon snack that won’t leave you dragging. My children like them too. So do their friends. I wish I could certify certain gluten free desserts that I make as “kid friendly,” like some sort of good housekeeping seal of approval. Alas, no ... read more →

This simple gluten free shortcake recipe is easy enough to make with your children
One summer evening as I baked countless batches of gluten free cookies, my older son popped into the kitchen. Determined to join me in my culinary adventures, he decided to make gluten free strawberry shortcake from scratch (as in using no cookbook or recipe). The twist? He’s a chocolate lover, so he made Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake.
As you may know, Jewish mothers tend to think of their sons ... read more →

These peanut butter cookies are gluten free, grain free and vegan to boot. I based them on Heidi’s Peanut Butter Cookie recipe over at 101 Cookbooks, one of my favorite websites. Though I did cut the amount of sweetener in half and make a couple of other changes.
I have been on a bit of a peanut butter kick lately. I didn’t eat peanut butter for a long time. I just didn’t feel great when I ate it, however, I’m feeling ... read more →

I met Silvana last year at Blogher Food and felt an instant connection with her. She is magnetic in a smart, sophisticated, New York kinda way, and I was more than happy to spend a full day at the conference sitting with her for every session and sharing breaks together chatting.
During the day, our stories unfolded, and we learned that in terms of our children, we have much in common. Silvana, the former editor-in-chief at Rachael Ray Everyday, began cooking ... read more →

I’ve been on a gluten free Hamantaschen rampage the last few days and these are my latest and greatest. I’ll be serving them at today’s Purim party for my younger son’s Chavurah. We’re having 7 families over in a little while to celebrate Purim and the story of Esther.

These healthy, higher protein, gluten free Date Walnut Bars are a nice alternative to my more indulgent gluten free Cake Pops. If you follow me on Facebook, you know I’m obsessed with cake pops. After I put the words “cake pops” in my status update bar for the umpteenth time, one of my followers said, “yes, I have noticed them!” I think she may have had just a twinge if sarcasm in her response, though who can blame her.
Anyway, back ... read more →

I came up with the recipe for this Cinnamon Pecan Brittle when I messed up a recipe from Dorie Greenspan’s lovely cookbook, Around My French Table.
I had thought I was making Spiced Nuts, though when I pulled these out of the oven, I realized that I had actually made a scrumptious nut brittle. So, I made the recipe several additional times, tweaking each version along the way until I was pleased with this new permutation.

Update: this giveaway has ended and the winner was Susan!
This year, I’m making many of the holiday gifts that I’ll be giving. One of my favorite things to give, that you might also like to give to your friends and family, is this homemade cookie mix.

The recipe for this gluten free Cinnamon Apple Cake comes from one of my favorite bloggers, AndreAnna “The Primal Matriarch” and her food blog, Life as a Plate. I adapted my version of her recipe, Apple Spice Bread, eliminating the step of pre-cooking the apples, adding a ton of cinnamon, and making a couple other changes as well.
I think that you’ll be delighted whether you go for her original recipe or my inerpretation of it below. By the way, this ... read more →

Let us now praise all things pumpkin. I’m kinda obsessed with gluten free, dairy free pumpkin dishes right now, hence the vegan Pumpkin Ice Cream here, and the Pumpkin Bars earlier this week. And let us not forget the Pumpkin Pie Muffins of last year either.
This pumpkin pie ice cream is a delicious fall treat whether served at Halloween or Thanksgiving. For more information on pumpkin mania, check out this funny article from Esquire called Some Pumpkin Flavoring Best Avoided ... read more →

In honor of fall, I spent several days last week in a pumpkin “trance,” experimenting with various iterations of gluten free baked goods containing pumpkin.
At first, I had terrible failures. Suffice it to say that my pumpkin cookies and pumpkin scones while edible, were not at all blog worthy. Next, I decided to make pumpkin loaves –while they didn’t look too pretty, they were delicious. Finally, I made these gluten free pumpkin bars, which my 10 year old declared “addictive.” Every day last ... read more →

This gluten free, dairy free and vegan Chocolate Sorbet recipe is an oldie but goodie from my recipe archives. What are these archives of which I speak? A binder with more than a thousand of my unpublished recipes. Anyway, this frozen treat is one of my mother-in-law’s favorite gluten free desserts, and she asks me to make it every time she comes to visit us.

This new and improved gluten free Peach Crisp was a lot of fun to shoot and even more fun to eat. I’m loving (rather than dreading) taking pictures ever since I took the Food and Light Photography Workshop.
Why another Peach Crisp? Well, a number of you had left comments on my “old” Peach Crisp recipe, mentioning that the topping seemed wet. So, I went back and tried the recipe myself. I wrote that recipe 2 years ago and I guess ... read more →
