Paleo Honey Cake made with high protein almond flour for your High Holiday celebrations.
Honey Cake, also known as Lebkuchen, is a traditional Jewish dessert eaten during Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year); my family sometimes serves it during Yom Kippur Break Fast as well since it is a warming, comforting food. Traditionally, we eat honey during the High Holidays as this ritual sets the tone for a sweet new year. It is common to dip apples in honey at the ... read more →

Looking for a quick and easy gluten free chocolate cake? This one is so simple that you can make it one pot and it doesn’t need a drop of frosting. I’m hooked on this thick, fudgey, yet cakey treat. I made it a couple of weeks ago during our Super Bowl party and it was gobbled up in mere minutes by our boisterous gang of guests.

This recipe for cake pops is one of my favorite gluten free desserts and can also be considered a gluten free candy.
I bought Bakerella’s fabulous book Cake Pops: Tips, Tricks, and Recipes for More Than 40 Irresistible Mini Treats just after Thanksgiving.

The recipe for this gluten free Cinnamon Apple Cake comes from one of my favorite bloggers, AndreAnna “The Primal Matriarch” and her food blog, Life as a Plate. I adapted my version of her recipe, Apple Spice Bread, eliminating the step of pre-cooking the apples, adding a ton of cinnamon, and making a couple other changes as well.
I think that you’ll be delighted whether you go for her original recipe or my inerpretation of it below. By the way, this ... read more →

This gluten free Double Chocolate Orange Torte will make a nice treat for Passover, which is rapidly approaching! My family, however, needed no holiday or excuse to devour the entire cake on a Sunday afternoon. This treat is easy to make and even easier to eat. Go ahead, try some and see for yourself.
Double Chocolate Orange Torte
½ cup chocolate chunks
½ cup blanched almond flour

My husband loves this simple, moist gluten free Cherry Apricot Cake. I make sure to use organic dried fruit in this dessert since pesticides levels tend to be high in conventional cherries and apricots and more concentrated in dried fruits. I often purchase my organic dried fruit at the local health food store, Vitamin Cottage; for more “hard to find” ingredients such as organic dried cherries (sans added sugar) one of my favorite sources is an online company ... read more →

Here’s another flourless cake for those looking for an alternative to almond flour or in search of a nut-free recipe. My husband and older son loved this fruity chocolate cake. I was thinking that with a nice strawberry frosting this cake would make a delicious banana split type dessert.
This gluten-free, grain-free cake is quick and easy. You’ll just want to make sure that your bananas are quite ripe to ensure its sweetness. If you can do dairy, this cake would ... read more →

It’s amazing what you can do without any flour! I made this gluten free chocolate cake using beets. Being “Deceptively Delicious“ I fooled my husband. While my children are game to eat pretty much anything I make, my husband is known as the “picky” eater around here.
Because of his strong critiques and my perfectionist bent, I often find myself testing a new recipe four, five or more times. Though this one I nailed the second time, it was that ... read more →

We will be making this gluten free German Chocolate Cake (and many other dishes) in my next cooking class at the Culinary School of the Rockies, March 17th. If you want to sign up there is still some space left.
As we all know, there are many ways to make German Chocolate Cake. An entire chocolate cake can be frosted with a coconut pecan icing as I did a while back in this post. Alternatively, the sides of the cake can ... read more →

When I recently posted my Accidental Mocha Mousse recipe, Samantha requested this German Chocolate Cake so that she and her mother would not miss out on it during the holidays. I am more than pleased to add it to this blog, as German Chocolate Cake is a classic.
Although my boys are in a finicky stage lately, boycotting most of the things I make (even dessert!) they eagerly wolfed down this sweet, rich chocolaty cake.

This moist festive dessert is a perfect healthy treat for your holiday celebrations.
Yum. Gluten Free and Dairy Free Orange Cake. There’s something special about oranges. Such a simple fruit yet, bursting with flavor and possibility, they remind me of winter, specifically Christmas.

Yes, I continue to roll out the coconut flour recipes. This time it’s gluten free Chocolate Cake. I am having a great time experimenting with this unique flour. My son’s viola teacher, Sandra, asked for advice regarding traditional Thanksgiving family fare. The next thing I knew, she had given me a copy of a recipe for Pumpkin Cranberry Upside-Down Cake featured in Sunset Magazine’s November 2007 issue. I made several changes to it, most notably removing the sugar, dairy and gluten and was pleased with the results.
This dessert is a rich, moist cross between a pumpkin cake and a pumpkin pie. Perfect for that post-Halloween, pre-Thanksgiving time ... read more →
