Gluten Free Is Not Healthy

Posted on July 11, 2012

Photo by Robert Couse-Baker. Hopefully, people have begun to realize that the gluten free diet is not a shortcut to health.

Gluten Free is not healthy? Blasphemy –you must think someone has hijacked my blog, but it’s true. Just because a food is gluten free does not mean it is healthy.

Sadly, the recent popularity of “gluten free” has many thinking that if they eliminate gluten, they are on a healthy diet.  As Michael Pollan wrote last year in the New York Times ... read more →

On a Personal Note

Posted on June 5, 2009

So now, for something personal.  I don’t usually go into a ton of detail on the overarching factors of my life.  However, today, I do want to share a bit of information.  And I hope you will take it as no more than that.

Just about 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.  While I had been experiencing symptoms of this illness for several years, there was no conclusive information as to what this array of symptoms was due.

The knowledgeable Loren Cordain, Ph.D., takes us back to the pre-agrarian diets of our ancestors. Yes, that’s the Stone Age, a time before the Agricultural Revolution, which occurred a mere 10,000 years ago (a short time ago given man’s 2 million year history).

The diet featured in this book is one ... read more →

Carlo Petrini

Posted on April 3, 2007

The Slow Food Movement was born in Italy in1986 when Carlo Petrini organized a protest against the building of a McDonald’s in Rome.

Petrini founded Slow Food International three years later, renouncing not only Fast Food, but the overall pace of Fast Life. Issuing a manifesto, the movement called for the safeguarding of local economies, the rediscovery of authentic culinary tradition and a sustainable, ecologically aware consumerism.

At the table, Slow Food advocates a return to traditional recipes, locally grown foods ... read more →
