Gluten Free Granola
Posted under breakfasts on October 5, 2009
When I was in New York a couple of weeks ago, I found a raw, vegan, gluten free granola made of mulberries and walnuts. It was absolutely delicious, though just a bit sweet for my palate.
I saved the package (it was made by International Harvest and they have other flavors as well), and this weekend

Even though summer is coming to a close, I’m still into my green juices and smoothies; more than ever, in fact. This is one of my favorites and I owe credit to Meghan Telpner as it is based on one of the recipes from the Green Cleanse on her site.
I’m running out to the airport

Creamy “Ricotta” Dip

Last night I made this delicious vegan “ricotta” dip for my parents who are in town visiting us. The boys and I are having a blast with them, though I am having an especially great time, since I have extra mouths to feed, which means more guinea pigs to test my creations!
Luckily, the parents (and

You will find this cool and creamy cucumber avocado soup refreshing on a hot summer day. I’ve been drinking it all weekend and experimenting with it along the way.
I tried making it with raw garlic, which did not go down as smoothly as I thought it would, so I eliminated that ingredient. However I did

Raw Kale Shiitake Salad

The other night I went to a fabulous event in Boulder hosted by Bauman College. During this evening one of the graduates from Bauman’s chef program did a great cooking demo for a raw kale salad with shiitake mushrooms (it had a number of other ingredients as well).
The next day, I was determined to

Garnish this Sesame Dip starter with pieces of carrot and celery for dipping and you have an instantly satisfying salty and crunchy snack. This dip is a hit at parties and was enjoyed at our Passover Seder (thinned out with a bit of water and) served over roasted asparagus. It’s quite versatile and makes a

McKale

I am lucky enough to say that my boys love to eat kale. There was actually a kale incident the other night whereby I only made one bunch and some grabbing occurred at the table as the boys “fought” over it. Ok, sorry to brag, however this is what sometimes happens in my

Raw “Tapioca” Pudding

Chia seeds are my new favorite food!
Rich in fatty acids, these seeds contain more omega-3’s than any other vegetarian source. They are also quite high in anti-oxidants, minerals and fiber. Further, I find that they are quite soothing for my digestive system (and I’m always looking for a boost in that realm).
I got the idea

While the boys were on break during the holidays we got really into kale. My older one prefers his steamed and tops it with ume plum vinegar and toasted sesame oil. The little one, however, joins us in eating my raw kale concoctions.
These raw salads are super healthy, crunchy and quite delicious.

These Gluten Free Truffles my final installment of the trufflemania series. At least for now.
These super nutritious little bites of sesame sweetness remind me of the halva I used to devour as a child. They’re easy to make, vegan, dairy-free and of course, gluten-free. Don’t let all those labels scare you though, more than anything

The 8th graders at Shining Mountain Waldorf School held a huge peach sale this week and we participated by ordering two cases. Today, the boys and I picked up 40 pounds of luscious local Colorado peaches after dismissal. Hands and faces sticky with juice, the boys dug in before we made it to the car.

Raw Tomato Sauce

Is your garden overflowing with tomatoes? Mine is. It’s a jungle out there. The zucchini plant is on the offensive, overtly attacking its neighbors in a battle for square footage while the tomatoes surreptitiously creep and cling to everything they can. At this point, they are huge sprawling bushes, heavy with
