Paleo tzimmes –traditional Jewish fare that tastes great and is healthy to boot.
A while back my mother-in-law asked me to create a tzimmes dish for the Jewish holidays; it was a comment from Shari in NC that spurred me towards fulfilling that wonderful request.

Yesterday, when I compiled my Rosh Hashanah Menu, I promised y’all that I would give out the recipe for my Stuffed Peppers today, and here they are. I’m glad I made that promise, since it “forced” me to make these gluten free, grain free stuffed peppers for dinner last night, and my husband and I love them. We had a great Labor Day weekend with lots of festivities. In fact, my older son turned 12 during the weekend and we celebrated in various ways with lots of his friends. It was an absolutely delightful time.

Rosh Hashanah is tomorrow at sundown and although I’m a tad behind in my planning, we are getting ready. Thus far, I have put together the below menu. I’ve been perusing Claudia Roden’s The Book of Jewish Food for additional ideas, as she is one of my favorite cookbook authors. Of all time.

With only two more days until erev Rosh Hashanah I am putting the final touches on the planning phase of our holiday feast. Soon much cooking and celebrating will begin.

Gluten-Free Girl recently announced she is with child.
Out here in Colorado, I have big news as well. Our pet house-bunny was neutered today. After humping every stuffed animal and slipper in the house, we took him to the vet only to discover that contrary to what the Humane Society had told us when we adopted him from their shelter, all of his reproductive capacities were fully intact.

My son’s viola teacher, Sandra, asked for advice regarding traditional Thanksgiving family fare. The next thing I knew, she had given me a copy of a recipe for Pumpkin Cranberry Upside-Down Cake featured in Sunset Magazine’s November 2007 issue. I made several changes to it, most notably removing the sugar, dairy and gluten and was pleased with the results.

Every Friday night, I roast a chicken. My children are willing to consume any chicken dish as long as it contains fruit. Such is our unspoken agreement.
This past week, I used apples to lure my children to their protein dish. The combination of rosemary with apples was a natural pairing and the balsamic vinegar, which caramelized during roasting, sweetly permeated the entire chicken.
